Chapter 25: The Refrigerator Has Doubled in Size, Wonderful
The three children had never heard such reasoning before. Their three pairs of dark, lively eyes shone with hopeful light.
“Sister-in-law hopes you develop a proper understanding of money—neither viewing it as a ferocious beast nor loving it more than life itself. When poor, do not belittle yourselves; when wealthy, do not become arrogant and domineering.”
Bowing to the strong while bullying the weak is human nature. Only by overcoming this nature can one be said to possess true upbringing.
Wen Nuan Nuan hoped that even if the three little ones achieved great success and immense wealth in the future, they would still retain the pride and upbringing ingrained in their bones.
Money and power do not earn genuine respect and reverence from others, but upbringing does.
Years later, when they held high positions, she hoped they would remain true to themselves.
The three little ones lowered their heads and remained silent for a long time. When they looked up again, their slender frames were still thin, but they no longer hunched or shrank back. They stood tall and straight, their expressions resolute.
Wen Nuan Nuan felt deeply gratified.
Since she had become their sister-in-law and had three obedient, sensible younger brothers by her side, she naturally wanted them to grow up with confidence and positivity.
As dawn began to break, Wen Nuan Nuan, thinking about going into the city today, woke up startled.
The room was pitch black, with only faint light seeping through the cracks in the window.
After waking up and gathering her thoughts, Wen Nuan Nuan sat up, rubbed her face, and habitually opened the refrigerator to check whether it had expanded and by how much.
Yesterday, she had genuinely been thinking of the three little ones, so the refrigerator might have expanded somewhat.
Even though she was prepared for the refrigerator to expand, seeing the space before her—more than doubled in size—she couldn’t help but feel astonished!
How could it suddenly expand so much?
Yesterday, she had only talked about teaching the three little ones numbers, but she hadn’t actually taught them yet.
Hmm, and there was teaching the three little ones about their attitude toward money. Could it be because of this that the refrigerator expanded so much?
No, probably not.
Not only had the upper part of the refrigerator expanded, but the lower part had as well.
The difference was that the lower part wasn’t divided into separate freezer sections; it was just one whole unit, like a storage box.
Looking closely, the upper part still had five shelves, with three of them noticeably larger than the other two.
It seemed that being good to the three little ones only expanded the space of three of the upper shelves.
But what else had she done yesterday?
Something that caused the entire refrigerator to double in size?
Wen Nuan Nuan immediately thought of the fierce group from yesterday morning who came to collect the Usury Loan!
Could it be because she went out and protected the house!?
Well, after all, this house wasn’t just for her and the three little ones to live in—it also belonged to Leng Xiao. So, the overall expansion of the refrigerator made sense.
Wen Nuan Nuan breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that she had left the room yesterday to protect the house.
Not having a system was such a hassle—everything had to be guessed on her own.
Other people’s transmigrations were so much better. The system would directly assign tasks, clearly stating what to do, what results to achieve, and what rewards to expect. The system would even provide on-site guidance or hints from time to time.
How wonderful.
Wen Nuan Nuan was so envious she could almost drool.
Unlike her, who had to guess and make decisions on her own.
But in that situation, wouldn’t any normal person have made the same choice as her to go out and help?
After spending two days with the three little ones, she had developed some affection for them, and since this was where she needed to live, she would definitely choose to help.
The difficulty level wasn’t high, which was quite good.
No chance of making the wrong choice.
Well, if it were the original host, she wouldn’t have chosen to help. The original host had spent over three months with the three little ones and had even been saved by them, yet she showed no gratitude in return.
Knowing the debt repayment deadline, she packed up alone beforehand to live a comfortable life.
So later, when the Leng Family brothers achieved unparalleled wealth and power, the original host went looking for them. She thought the three little ones, who had once been so respectful toward her, would treat her the same as before, only to find their attitudes were worlds apart.
Not only were they not respectful, they didn’t even spare her a glance.
The original host wanted to reminisce about their childhood bond, but found there was nothing to reminisce about.
She wanted to complain about her hardships, only to realize that the only hardships were those of the Leng Family brothers—and she was the one who had caused them.
She wanted them to be magnanimous and repay her unkindness with kindness, but they coldly replied: “If you repay unkindness with kindness, what will you repay kindness with? Repay unkindness with justice, and kindness with kindness.”
In the end, the desperate original host stubbornly insisted that as the eldest sister-in-law, she was like a mother, and demanded the three of them honor and support her.
The outcome was predictable.
It was simply as miserable as could be!
Wen Nuan Nuan shivered. She wasn’t the original host, and she didn’t want the three little ones to support her. She only hoped that when the four of them achieved success and fame in the future, they would let her buy a small house in a picturesque setting, where she could live a leisurely, carefree retirement life in the countryside.
That’s not too much to ask, is it?
For this small goal, she would work hard, harder, and even harder to be good to them!
~
Wen Nuan Nuan thought she was the earliest riser. She tiptoed to open the door, careful not to wake the three little ones.
She planned to go to the kitchen first to prepare breakfast before calling them to get up, letting them sleep a little longer.
Especially Eldest Brother.
After all, he was the one mainly pulling the cart and doing the heavy lifting.
But when she opened the main hall door, she found the three little ones were already up, quietly loading the cart in the yard.
“Sister-in-law,” the three little ones called out respectfully in unison when they saw Wen Nuan Nuan come out.
“Did we make noise and wake you?” Leng Chen asked, somewhat self-reproachfully.
It was no wonder they thought so. Over the past two days, their sister-in-law had often slept in until the sun was high and always seemed tired.
Wen Nuan Nuan laughed it off. “Not at all! I’m quite diligent too, you know. I woke up on my own!”
She wanted to be a good sister-in-law and couldn’t leave the impression of being lazy and fond of sleeping in!
Wen Nuan Nuan walked around the flatbed cart, admiring how neatly and thoughtfully the items were arranged, with gaps filled with straw. She couldn’t help but praise, “You’ve done a great job. Very thorough.”
The three little ones scratched their heads sheepishly.
Shyly, they replied, “We used to do the same when selling goods in the city.”
Hearing this, Wen Nuan Nuan noticed in the dim light that the cart wasn’t just loaded with food but also many bamboo and wooden products.
Beside the cart were two large baskets—one filled to the brim with medicinal herbs, the other with sections of bamboo tubes.
Bamboo tubes?
“What are the bamboo tubes for? Can they be sold for money too?” Wen Nuan Nuan asked curiously.
Leng Yun grinned. “For drinking water. We won’t have to worry about getting thirsty on the way to and from the city, or while we’re there.”
Wen Nuan Nuan opened her mouth in an “oh.”
She had a refrigerator with milk, yogurt, and now she could even store water in it, so she had never considered the issue of bringing water on long trips.
But the three little ones were different. Especially Eldest Brother. Even though he knew she had a “treasure,” he never asked her to use it or use it for him.
They relied on themselves first whenever they could.
They gathered firewood, collected herbs, grew vegetables, wove bamboo products—they didn’t neglect any of it.
Not overly reliant on her ‘treasure,’ she was self-sufficient and mindful of potential dangers.
Their maturity made her want to treat them even better.
“When we get to the city, let’s look for water storage bags or flasks. Bamboo tubes are heavy, don’t seal well, and tend to leak,” Wen Nuan Nuan said softly.
This was also an essential item.
Even if they later learned she had a treasure, they wouldn’t always be together. When apart, they would still need to use such items.
Moreover, buying them now meant they could bring them up the mountain later, so they wouldn’t have to endure thirst when water was scarce.
