Chapter 5: Her Character Doesn’t Need Your Commentary
Upon hearing this, Lin Wenxiong shook his head with a bitter smile.
“It’s more than just urgent.”
“If it weren’t for your fiancée’s classmate discovering the situation in the private room, my dance hall would have been dragged into a manslaughter lawsuit today.”
“But we’ve already sent someone to call an ambulance.”
After briefly explaining the situation, he remembered the identity of the person before him and gestured sideways toward the back.
“Would you like to go take a look?”
“Compared to us, you’re the most experienced one here.”
Li Beichen didn’t refuse, but before heading over, he first patted Shen Yi’an’s head.
“An An, stay right here and don’t go anywhere.”
“Wait for me to finish.”
Meeting the man’s serious expression, Shen Yi’an responded with a soft “Mm” and agreed.
Seeing this, Li Beichen finally walked over to inspect the scene.
To say he was checking the injuries of the person on the ground was more accurately described as examining the scene for any traces Shen Yi’an might have left behind.
If there were none, that would be fine.
But if there were, he’d need to figure out how to handle it.
As for using clumsy methods like destroying evidence, he disdained such tactics.
Shen Yi’an, standing not far behind him, had no idea what Li Beichen was thinking.
At that moment, she was facing questions from her classmates.
“Yi An, what does your partner do? I noticed the muscles on his arms are really prominent!”
“Yeah, yeah, and when he walks, it’s like he’s cutting through the wind. He must not have an ordinary job, right?”
“He looks like he came from the military. My cousin walks similarly, but he’s not as tall.”
“Yi An, is your partner a soldier?”
Seeing everyone’s curiosity, Shen Yi’an smiled and nodded. “Yes, my partner is a soldier.”
“He was dragged here by a friend today. He usually avoids crowded places.”
Confirming this fact, the envy in everyone’s eyes was almost overflowing.
The boys were envious because they all dreamed of joining the military.
The girls were envious purely out of admiration and affection.
But it was also because of this exchange that everyone tacitly forgot the earlier incident of being misled.
And the person who had misled them was now standing alone in the spot closest to the man in black.
It wasn’t that anyone was deliberately isolating her; it was just that Yin Qingqing was stunned.
Because of Li Beichen’s appearance.
In her past life, she had been entirely focused on how to latch onto He Haiguang.
During this period, they had been fooling around in the private room, so she hadn’t noticed whether Li Beichen was around.
He must have been there, though.
Otherwise, Shen Yi’an would never have had the chance to meet him.
Because she had overlooked this detail, Yin Qingqing now felt particularly stifled.
At this time in her past life, were Shen Yi’an and Li Beichen already dating?
But that couldn’t be right!
She remembered hearing Shen Yi’an mention once that she had met her partner at a matchmaking event, specifically a military-organized social gathering.
So what was going on now?
And, if she hadn’t misheard, she should have just heard Li Beichen introduce Shen Yi’an as his fiancée.
When did that happen?
The last time she went home, she overheard her mother muttering that someone had tried to arrange a marriage for the Li family’s youngest son but was politely declined.
If he had already declined, wasn’t the “fiancée” claim just nonsense?
Could it be that her rebirth had somehow brought the two together earlier?
Too many questions swirled in her mind, leaving Yin Qingqing momentarily disoriented.
She completely forgot to maintain her image in front of her classmates, pushing through the crowd recklessly to reach the front. “Shen Yi’an, when did you get to know Brother Li?”
“You’re not worthy of him at all. Why are you with him?”
“Did you deliberately approach him after finding out about his status?”
“I’m going to tell Brother Li everything—that you’re a scheming woman who doesn’t deserve to be with him!”
Faced with Yin Qingqing’s sudden outburst, Shen Yi’an was genuinely startled. “What are you talking about?”
“Which Brother Li? Do you mean Li Beichen?”
“Yes, exactly—Brother Li Beichen!” Meeting her confused expression, Yin Qingqing’s reply was resolute.
“Did you intentionally get close to him because you knew about his status?”
“Let me tell you, stop daydreaming. There’s no way you’ll marry Brother Li.”
“Brother Li—”
“Enough!” Before Yin Qingqing could finish her hysterical shouting, Li Beichen’s cold voice cut in from behind her.
“Since when does an outsider decide my marriage with An An?”
“Mind your own business!”
When he turned to Shen Yi’an, the chill in his eyes instantly melted into warmth. “Her stepfather’s family lives near ours. I’m only familiar with her stepbrothers.”
Though it was just one sentence, it carried multiple implications.
Since it was a stepfather, it meant Yin Qingqing wasn’t a biological child but an outsider.
And only being familiar with the stepbrothers indicated Yin Qingqing hadn’t integrated into their circle.
Thus, her constant use of “Brother Li” was merely her own wishful thinking.
Understanding these nuances, Shen Yi’an flashed Li Beichen a radiant smile. “I didn’t say anything. You don’t need to explain to me.”
As the two exchanged glances, the surrounding crowd grew animated.
“After four years of university, I’m only now seeing Yin Qingqing’s true character.”
“Better late than never. We’ll all go our separate ways soon anyway.”
“This is the first time I’ve learned Yin Qingqing is a stepdaughter. She always bragged about her father and brothers, and I actually believed her.”
“Everyone has their vanities. Let’s be understanding!”
Hearing the murmurs around her, Yin Qingqing—already shaken by Li Beichen’s sudden intervention—flushed with anger. She turned to the crowd behind her, furious and humiliated. “Shut up!”
“You know nothing. What right do you have to judge me?”
Seeing the crowd fall silent, she turned back to Li Beichen, explaining urgently, “Brother Li, I didn’t mean what I said earlier.””
“But you don’t really know Shen Yi’an. She’s nothing like what you see.”
“Really, we’ve shared a dorm for four years. I know her better than anyone.”
“She’s not just—”
“Her character is none of your concern!” Li Beichen interrupted Yin Qingqing once more.
“Whether she’s good or bad, she’s my fiancée.”
“Besides, she’s wonderful!”
Ignoring the livid expression beside him, he reached out to gently tuck a stray strand of hair behind Shen Yi’an’s ear.
Just as the onlookers were about to comment, hurried footsteps echoed nearby.
Soon after, a middle-aged woman’s voice sounded from the private room entrance. “Where is the injured person?”
She had likely been directed by the bodyguard in black.
A short while later, a female doctor in a white coat entered the private room, followed closely by four paramedics.
Seeing the doctor arrive, Lin Wenxiong stepped forward to assist. The group swiftly lifted the unconscious He Haiguang onto a stretcher and carried him out.
Not long after the ambulance departed, a tall, burly man hurried into the private room.
“Manager Lin, thank you for your help today!”
“If you hadn’t called the ambulance, Brother Guang might have been in serious trouble.”
“We’ll come back to thank you properly after Brother Guang is discharged from the hospital!”
After greeting Lin Wenxiong first, the man then scanned the situation inside the private room.
When his gaze met Li Beichen’s, the man’s pupils instinctively constricted, and all his muscles tensed instantly.
Noticing his reaction, Lin Wenxiong from across the room waved his hand dismissively.
“This is my nephew, no need to be nervous.”
“As long as you don’t engage in activities that harm the people or national interests, someone of his position won’t take action against you.”
Though the specific position wasn’t explicitly stated, the tense man understood the implication.
Someone who prioritizes the people and national interests – the man who made him feel threatened must be an official.
However, realizing he wasn’t currently engaged in any illegal activities, his tense body and nerves relaxed considerably.
Before turning away, he expressed gratitude to Lin Wenxiong, “Thank you for the reminder, Manager Lin.”
He glanced once more at the person who had frightened him, secretly sighed in relief, then shifted his gaze toward Yin Qingqing, who was shrinking her neck in fear.
