Chapter 12: Saving the Old Lady
The mother and daughter set off immediately.
“Sister, where are you two headed?” Liu Lan spat out a melon seed and asked with a smile.
“Auntie, we’re going to buy yummy treats!” Tongtong bounced along, the little bun on her head swaying with each hop, looking utterly adorable.
Liu Lan watched with envy.
She had given birth to three boys and dearly wished for a little girl.
Especially since Tongtong was as lovely as ice and snow, with rosy, plump cheeks that made anyone want to pinch them.
Liu Lan couldn’t help but tease her: “Tongtong, will you share the treats you buy with Auntie later?”
“Of course!” Tongtong replied without hesitation.
Auntie Liu Lan had helped them many times, and Mother said one should repay kindness.
Tongtong gestured wildly with her chubby little hands: “I’ll give Auntie lots and lots! Auntie helped Mommy, so Tongtong will definitely take care of you when she grows up!”
These words warmed Liu Lan’s heart.
No one took the little girl’s words seriously, but even as playful banter, they brought joy to the listener.
Little did she know that Little Tongtong’s simple promise would alter the course of her family’s fate.
“Hahaha! Sister Yu, your child is just too well-behaved! So endearing!”
Liu Lan smiled, pulling a handful of melon seeds from her pocket and stuffing them into Little Tongtong’s pocket: “Take these for the road!”
“Thank you, Auntie~ Auntie is so beautiful and kind~ You’ll definitely have good luck!”
“Your little mouth is as sweet as honey! Haha!”
“Tongtong only ever tells the truth!”
Her childish chatter made everyone sitting in the courtyard laugh along.
The little girl, beaming, held her mother’s hand and walked away, while Liu Lan happily returned to her own home.
Only to find that her youngest son had wet the bed again, sending another pang of frustration through her.
Truly, boys were nowhere near as sweet as girls!
…
At the department store.
The mother and daughter, armed with their bankbook, indulged themselves completely!
Yu Wanqin bought new clothes for both Tongtong and herself, and even got Tongtong a pair of little red leather shoes adorned with shiny rhinestones, which looked absolutely beautiful.
She also bought Tongtong a pretty bow hair clip.
By the time Tongtong emerged from the department store, she was completely transformed.
Besides that, the mother and daughter didn’t hold back on snacks either.
White Rabbit Creamy Candy, canned fruit, Malt milk powder—they bought a share of everything for Tongtong.
Hmph! If they didn’t spend this money, it would only benefit others.
Yu Wanqin hadn’t forgotten the piles of snacks scattered all over the house on the day she first arrived.
So, she didn’t hold back on this shopping trip either.
The mother and daughter returned home laden with bags, big and small, fully loaded!
As they left the store and reached the street corner, they saw a crowd gathered in a noisy commotion.
“Oh dear! This old lady has fainted, someone take her to the hospital!”
Hearing that someone had collapsed, Yu Wanqin’s heart tightened, and she quickly pushed through the crowd with Tongtong.
There, lying on the ground, was a well-dressed, gray-haired old lady.
Her face was pale and bluish, her breathing faint—it looked as though she might not make it.
During this time, Yu Wanqin had been cramming medical knowledge with Tongtong’s help, and she had also learned a thing or two from her father in the past.
She immediately recognized that the old lady was having a heart attack, and the situation was critical!
Without timely intervention, her life could be in danger.
There was no time to wait for an ambulance!
“Please, everyone, step aside! I’m a doctor!” Yu Wanqin could only say this to avoid complications.
“Don’t crowd around, give her some space! We need air circulation so the patient can breathe!”
Sure enough, everyone stepped back a little upon hearing this.
People still listened to doctors.
Yu Wanqin breathed a slight sigh of relief and, without delay, immediately straightened the old lady and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Her movements were standard and powerful!
This had been personally instructed by Tongtong, and she herself had a natural talent—she could memorize medical books after just one read and grasped concepts quickly.
So when saving someone, she was methodical and not the least bit flustered.
Tongtong’s little face was serious as she squatted beside her mother, her small hand seemingly unintentionally resting on the old lady’s cold wrist.
An extremely faint yet vibrant green energy silently flowed from her fingertips into the old lady’s body.
It precisely protected her heart and meridians, regulating the chaotic flow of qi.
A thin layer of sweat had already formed on Yu Wanqin’s forehead.
“Go, Mom!” Tongtong whispered encouragement to her mother.
Yu Wanqin nodded, focusing even more intently.
With her professional first aid and the silent support of Tongtong’s special ability,
the old lady on the ground suddenly gasped, her chest heaving violently. Her complexion shifted from bluish-purple to pale, gradually gaining a hint of rosiness.
She groggily opened her eyes, and in her blurred vision, she only saw a beautiful woman with sweat on her forehead and an adorable, snow-like little girl beside her.
“She’s awake! She’s awake!” The crowd erupted in joyful exclamations.
Everyone looked at Yu Wanqin with admiration.
A relieved smile also appeared on Yu Wanqin’s face as she slumped to the ground.
Thank goodness!
Tongtong quickly took her mother’s hand, secretly transferring a bit of her special ability to prevent her from becoming too exhausted.
Yu Wanqin strangely felt a refreshing energy flow through her limbs—indescribable but very comfortable.
Just then, the ambulance arrived.
Yu Wanqin and Tongtong helped lift the old lady into the vehicle, briefly explained the situation, and only relaxed after watching it drive away.
Yu Wanqin patted the dust off her clothes, picked up her bags of belongings, and quietly left.
At the hospital,
the old lady drifted back to sleep and woke up again later.
She saw a handsome middle-aged man in a crisp military uniform, with general’s stars on his shoulders, anxiously waiting by her bedside.
“Mom! Are you alright? You scared me to death. The doctor said it was a sudden heart attack. Thankfully, a kind person performed CPR on you. You mustn’t run around anymore—you need to rest properly!”
But the old lady waved her hand, feeling unusually energetic.
Her eyes were clear and bright: “I’m fine! I feel… I actually feel much lighter… as if a heavy burden has been lifted!”
She found it quite miraculous and even sat up to move around a bit—she truly felt light all over.
Patting her eldest son’s shoulder, she spoke earnestly: “Son! You must find the person who saved me, understand? I want to thank them properly!”
Commander Liu nodded solemnly: “Don’t worry, Mom! I will!”
…
Back at the compound, Tongtong and Yu Wanqin were in high spirits.
Tongtong took out the White Rabbit Creamy Candy she had bought and would hand out two pieces whenever she saw an aunt or a little friend in the yard.
“Hello, Auntie! Have some candy… friendship candy is sweet and fragrant!”
Her little mouth chattered cheerfully, her smile sweet, and her long eyelashes fluttered. Paired with the new bow hair clip she had bought, she looked as adorable as a doll.
The aunties who received the candy beamed with joy, their fondness for this “thoughtful” mother and daughter soaring.
“Grandma Wang, have some candy too!” Tongtong took two pieces of candy and gave them to Grandma Wang, who was sitting under the Old Ginkgo enjoying the cool shade.
The Old Ginkgo had said that this Grandma Wang was super amazing—a know-it-all!
She knew everything! And she loved spreading gossip the most!
Tongtong was determined to build a good relationship with her. Mom said that if you want to befriend someone, you must first give and receive in kind!
Hehe! The System’s learning ability is super strong!
