Chapter 22: A Sweet and Soft Little Sister
Si Muchen took a deep breath.
He was really fed up!
This damn system was as talkative as the little girl, chattering nonstop.
“I just remembered, my uncle isn’t home, so there’s no rush to eat.”
Si Muchen smoothly turned back, took the small basket, and walked ahead.
Tongtong asked curiously, “Where did Godfather go?”
“He’s on a mission.”
“Oh, no wonder I haven’t seen him these past couple of days. I miss him so much. Hehe!”
Without Godfather around, who would help her torment Scumbag Dad?
Seeing her eyes darting around, Si Muchen knew the little girl was definitely up to no good.
The two children chatted idly as they walked down the mountain.
[Host! Good luck is here!]
[Detected “Precious Medicinal Herb” nearby, within one meter! Right under the chubby little girl’s feet, Host! Quick, pick it up!]
Almost as soon as the system’s voice rang out.
Tongtong let out an “Ouch!”
The little milk bun “thudded” to the ground, grimacing in pain.
Looking down.
Wow!
She had actually stepped on a Ginseng!
Oh my goodness! What incredible luck!
“Brother Muchen! It’s Ginseng! It really is Ginseng!” Tongtong carefully dug out the Ginseng and held it in her palm, showing it off to Si Muchen as if it were a treasure.
If she had heard the system’s thoughts, she would have dragged it out and given it a good beating.
Si Muchen glanced at it and replied indifferently, “Hmm.”
But inwardly, he felt a little proud.
After all, he was the one who gave it to her.
Tongtong happily tucked the Ginseng into the military-green small bag her Mother had made for her—though in reality, she stored it in her space.
Her space had expanded a bit recently.
Besides the Warehouse, there was now a small patch of land outside.
It could be used to grow medicinal herbs.
Hehe, she was her Mother’s little treasure trove. From now on, her Mother would have everything she needed!
The little girl was so happy she bounced along. When they reached the family compound, she even invited Si Muchen to come home for a meal.
“No need—”
Si Muchen refused.
He wasn’t used to the care of elders; it made him uncomfortable.
Besides, the system had already stolen enough energy for today.
But just then, a cheerful voice rang out at the entrance of the family compound.
“Muchen! Finally found you!”
Tongtong turned around and saw a big brother around eleven or twelve years old. He looked sunny and cheerful, tall and well-built, with handsome features, a crew cut, and wearing a military-green short-sleeved shirt.
He strode over in a few steps and, seeing the little pink bundle following Si Muchen, couldn’t help but grin: “Wow! Whose little sister is this? So cute!”
As he spoke, he reached out to touch Tongtong’s soft little cheek.
Si Muchen lowered his eyelids and slapped his hand away.
“Don’t touch randomly!”
The little girl’s skin was delicate; even a gentle rub would turn it red.
How could it withstand his pinching?
Gu Jingnan sheepishly rubbed his nose. “Alright.”
“I just got home, and none of you were there. Where’s my dad?”
“On a mission.”
“Oh, then what are you doing out here?”
“None of your business.”
“Hey! You little brat, haven’t seen you for almost half a month, and your temper’s getting worse!”
Si Muchen rolled his eyes slightly.
Listening to their conversation.
Although Si Muchen’s expression was still grumpy, he was clearly less cold.
Tongtong blinked her eyes and finally realized.
Could this big brother be Godfather’s son?
Tongtong tilted her head, pondering for a moment.
“Are you Brother Jingnan?”
Gu Jingnan’s eyes lit up. “Little girl, you know me?”
Tongtong curved her eyes, her voice soft and sticky, like a sweet, fragrant cream cake.
“Yeah~ I heard Godfather mention it.”
Gu Jingnan immediately understood.
His dad had told him over the phone that he had a god-sister now.
He had even warned him to take good care of and protect his sister once he returned from his hometown.
He never expected his sister to be this beautiful.
Like a delicate piece of carved jade, her rosy cheeks were as lovely as ice and snow, so tender they seemed as if they could be squeezed to release water.
Those large, dark eyes were as bright and beautiful as obsidian.
Gu Jingnan’s eyes practically sparkled with little stars.
“So you’re Sister Tongtong… Hello, little sister.” Gu Jingnan’s voice unconsciously softened, as if afraid of scaring her.
This made Si Muchen, who was standing nearby, break out in goosebumps.
He rolled his eyes again.
How disgusting!
Really!
But Tongtong just smiled and nodded: “Hello, Brother Jingnan~”
The two little tufts of hair on her head swayed along with her movement.
So adorable!
Her voice was so soft and sweet… It completely melted Gu Jingnan’s heart!
Overjoyed, he thought for a moment, then rummaged through his pocket and pulled something out as if presenting a treasure: “Here, this is a gift from your brother!”
It was a small airplane made from a bullet casing, polished to a shiny, smooth finish with intricate patterns carved into it—it looked quite exquisite.
Tongtong’s big eyes instantly lit up, and she couldn’t help exclaiming: “Wow! Did you make this yourself, brother?”
Seeing her reaction, Gu Jingnan knew he had chosen the right gift and couldn’t help but silently praise himself for his cleverness.
“Yes! I learned it last year from an old Scout master. I hope you don’t mind it, little sister.”
Tongtong happily held the bullet casing up to the sunlight to examine it closely.
The metallic reflection dazzled her eyes, but she couldn’t bear to blink.
The System liked shiny things.
“Thank you, brother! Tongtong really likes it!”
She grinned, revealing her small, pearly white teeth, with dimples on her cheeks that made her look sweet and well-behaved.
Gu Jingnan tried to hold back but couldn’t resist. He reached out and gently, very gently, pinched his sister’s cheek.
Then, like a child who had just received candy, he covered the hand that had just pinched her cheek and grinned foolishly.
Wow! He finally had a sister!
And she was so fragrant and soft… like cotton candy.
Si Muchen couldn’t stand it any longer and stepped between them, grumbling: “Weren’t we going to eat?”
He then shot a resentful glance at the little girl.
Was she really won over by something so trivial?
He had just given her a Ginseng!
Hmph!
[System: …]
[How absurd. Did you even tell her it was from you?]
Si Muchen ignored it.
Tongtong also remembered the matter of eating. Covering her rumbling stomach, she nodded sheepishly: “Right! Let’s eat!”
She warmly invited: “Brother Jingnan, would you like to come home with me to eat?”
Gu Jingnan nodded without hesitation: “Sure!”
His sister’s home… He wanted to go!
Tongtong took his hand: “Then let’s go! If we’re late, my mother will worry!”
The two walked a few steps before turning back to find Si Muchen awkwardly following along.
Tongtong secretly covered her mouth and giggled, saying nothing.
The three little ones headed home together.
Yu Wanqin was cooking in the hallway.
Seeing Tongtong bring Si Muchen back, she smiled warmly: “Muchen is here! Perfect timing—Auntie is making small gold bars today. It’s my specialty!”
Si Muchen politely greeted her: “Thank you, Aunt Yu.”
After speaking, he deliberately glanced at Gu Jingnan, secretly comparing in his heart.
He was also very familiar with the little girl’s mother; they had a life-saving bond.
On this point alone, he couldn’t compare!
Gu Jingnan also noticed Si Muchen’s gaze, feeling instantly somewhat displeased.
