Chapter 3: This Brother Seems So Down
The kidnapper froze.
A sharp gaze instantly locked onto the adorable little girl in the aisle.
Yu Wanqin quickly apologized to everyone, wanting to take Tongtong to use the restroom.
As they passed by the couple, Tongtong suddenly cried out, “Auntie, the little brother you’re holding seems sick. His face is so pale. Is he also holding in his pee?”
All eyes focused on them!
It was true!
“This child’s complexion is unnaturally pale…” someone who had raised children before remarked suspiciously, thinking he looked feverish and dazed.
Yu Wanqin also frowned, kindly advising, “Ma’am, would you like to call a doctor to take a look?”
The woman glared with dead-fish eyes, angrily retorting, “None of your damn business! My child is perfectly fine! My son is just asleep!”
“No, he’s not!” Tongtong placed her hands on her hips, her rosy little face full of seriousness. “You just fed the little brother some white medicine, and that’s why he’s unconscious!”
As soon as these words were spoken, the people around immediately grew vigilant.
No matter the era, everyone deeply despised kidnappers!
Just then, a train police officer walked over.
“What’s going on here?”
Tongtong immediately piped up in her childish voice, “Uncle Policeman! They fed the little brother medicine! They made him pass out!”
The train police officer’s gaze instantly sharpened as he looked at the couple.
His exceptional professional training and combat experience allowed him to immediately see that the child indeed had a problem…
He quickly reached for his waist.
“Let me take a look!” he demanded sternly.
Seeing the situation turning against them, the two kidnappers glared viciously at Tongtong.
The man suddenly pulled out a knife, pressing it against the little boy’s neck, and growled menacingly, “Don’t anyone come closer! Or I’ll kill this kid!”
The train car instantly erupted into screams and chaos!
They really were kidnappers! And they had a knife!
The people around panicked and fled in all directions.
In that critical moment, no one noticed the little milk bun Lin Tongtong.
She moved like a nimble little cannonball, weaving freely through the crowd.
She darted out with a “whoosh,” executed a swift sweep kick, and quickly followed up with a punch, striking the kidnapper’s elbow.
With a fierce, babyish shout, she cried, “All reactionaries are paper tigers—heiya!”
A tremendous force struck, and the kidnapper let out a howl of pain as both the knife and the person fell to the ground.
Tongtong, quick as lightning, spread her arms and threw herself forward.
She wanted to catch the little brother.
But she forgot she was too small…
“Ouch!”
The two of them tumbled into a heap.
Meanwhile, the train police officer and brave passengers swarmed in, quickly subduing the kidnappers.
Tongtong took the opportunity to channel her healing-type ability into the boy.
Si Muchen, who had been unconscious, felt as if a clear spring had flowed into his limbs and bones.
It instantly cleared his muddled mind, filling his entire body with energy.
The mechanical voice in his head exploded.
Thank heavens! My host! I’ve finally reconnected!
【Oh my god! I actually encountered another System in this world!】
【Quick, quick, quick! Let me steal some energy, sob… I’ve been forced to shut down for five years without any energy!】
“Shut up!”
Si Muchen used his consciousness to block the chattering voice in his head!
【System: !!!】
It had just booted up!
It went into self-isolation!
Si Muchen shook his head and opened his eyes, only to see a milk bun staring at him curiously with her big, dark eyes.
She was still lying on top of him, like a soft, sweet-smelling marshmallow—gentle and well-behaved, unbearably adorable.
Si Muchen was stunned.
He didn’t push her away.
Yu Wanqin’s heart leaped into her throat. She rushed over, picked up her daughter with concern, and checked her over from head to toe.
“Tongtong, are you okay?”
Tongtong shook her head, rubbing her little bottom.
She looked at Si Muchen, who had also been helped up by the train police. The little brother was really good-looking.
But his eyes always seemed cold and sorrowful, as if covered by a layer of dust, devoid of color.
“Little brother, are you okay?” Tongtong leaned closer, her big eyes sparkling, blinking brightly.
Like a blazing little sun.
Si Muchen wasn’t used to such closeness. He felt he belonged in a damp, filthy ditch!
Instinctively, he put on a cold, expressionless face. “Who asked you to meddle?”
After saying it, he paused, seeming somewhat regretful.
Why did he say that?
But… it was already said!
He felt dejected, turned his face away, and fell silent.
Tongtong looked shocked. “You’re really something! I saved you, you know!”
“Why aren’t you talking? Is it because you don’t like to talk?”
Si Muchen really wanted to find a corner to crouch in by himself, but the little girl was like a bee, buzzing around him incessantly.
There was no helping it—after all, the System hadn’t had a speech function in its previous life.
Now that it was activated, the floodgates of chatter couldn’t be closed.
Si Muchen’s handsome brows were tightly furrowed.
So annoying!
But in the end, he still didn’t push her away.
Their back-and-forth gradually restored vitality to the carriage, which had been plunged into panic and gloom.
All three were taken to give statements.
From Si Muchen, the train police learned that among this batch, besides him, there were several other trafficked children.
Because of his solitary nature and fierce, intimidating appearance, he hadn’t been sold yet.
He clearly and logically provided information about the other children who had been sold.
The train police officer stepped out to take a call and returned shortly after, his expression now carrying a hint of respect. “Excuse me, are you Si Muchen, the nephew of Commander Gu from the Chuncheng Military District?”
Si Muchen lowered his head and gave a soft acknowledgment.
The officer breathed a sigh of relief and immediately went to relay the message.
Tongtong blinked her big eyes, looking at the little brother with curiosity.
Huh? Did I just save someone important?
…
For the rest of the journey, because Lin Tongtong had contributed to the rescue, she received special treatment. The mother and daughter, along with Si Muchen, were arranged in a separate soft sleeper compartment.
The train police asked Yu Wanqin to help look after Si Muchen.
Yu Wanqin didn’t mind—taking care of two children was no different.
Although Si Muchen was cold, he was polite and well-mannered, showing respect when interacting with Yu Wanqin.
He just didn’t like to talk.
Unfortunately, Tongtong loved clinging to him, nearly driving him to the brink of shutting down.
When the train arrived in Chuncheng, the mother and daughter were stopped just after getting off by several people in military uniforms.
The man at the front was imposing and dignified, with a stern and resolute face. The three stars on his shoulders clearly indicated his distinguished status.
He strode forward, embracing Si Muchen as soon as he stepped off the train, his voice filled with lingering fear and excitement. “You rascal! We finally found you!”
Si Muchen remained cold-faced, responding with a restrained “Mm.”
There was none of the warmth one might expect upon seeing an uncle.
But Gu Yanbin was used to it. He turned to look at Yu Wanqin and her daughter behind them.
His gaze first fell on the adorably icy-cute Tongtong, then finally settled on Yu Wanqin, who was holding the child, his eyes trembling slightly.
Was it her?
Gu Yanbin narrowed his eyes slightly, gathering his thoughts. “Thank you for saving my little rascal. I heard you’re also heading to the Military District?”
Yu Wanqin nodded nervously.
She had never seen such a high-ranking official before.
“That’s perfect! Let’s go together! We can look out for each other on the way!”
In the car.
Gu Yanbin inquired about the mother and daughter’s situation.
When Yu Wanqin introduced herself as “Lin Zhiguo’s wife,” his thick eyebrows raised, and his expression turned somewhat subtle.
Didn’t Lin Zhiguo already have a wife in the compound?
