Chapter 52: He Doesn’t Deserve to Be My Father
Shen Wei kept the fact that she had been investigated and nearly lost her job completely hidden.
Lin Zhiguo listened and actually believed her.
He felt that although Shen Wei had some minor flaws, she could still bring him honor in her work!
The scales in his heart began to tip in her favor once again.
Seeing the look on his face, Shen Wei knew exactly what he was thinking.
Shifting her tone, she began to sob and stir up trouble: “Zhi Guo, you have no idea what kind of days the children and I have been living while you were away… That child Tongtong has been completely spoiled by Commander Gu and the others…”
“Just a few days ago, by the river, Jiaojiao only wanted to play with her, but she heartlessly pushed Jiaojiao into the water! If I hadn’t risked my life to save her, Jiaojiao would have… would have been gone! Not only did she refuse to admit her mistake, but she also turned the tables on us, causing Jiaojiao and me to be confined and punished… Wuwuwu…”
She exaggerated and twisted the truth.
Lin Zhiguo was already angry because Tongtong had extorted a large sum of money from him.
Hearing Shen Wei’s tearful complaints, his anger flared up instantly!
“How dare she! So vicious at such a young age! She even dared to harm her own sister!”
Furious and in pain from his wound, he slammed his hand on the edge of the bed but accidentally tugged at his injury, grimacing in agony: “Go! Bring her here! I’m going to teach this unfilial daughter a lesson today!”
A sly, triumphant glint flashed in Shen Wei’s eyes as she quickly pretended to dissuade him.
“Zhi Guo, don’t be angry, be careful of your wound… Tongtong is still young, maybe she didn’t mean it…”
These words only added fuel to the fire.
Just then, Tongtong arrived at the hospital.
Gu Yanbin had been called away on urgent business.
He left Gu Jingnan and Si Muchen behind.
Instructing them to protect their sister and to find him if anything happened.
Tongtong toddled into the ward on her short little legs. Before she could even open her mouth to speak to Scumbag Dad lying in bed, Lin Zhiguo launched into a furious tirade:
“You wicked girl! How dare you show your face here! Look at what you’ve done to your sister and your eldest aunt! So young and already so evil-hearted, daring to push your sister into the water! Kneel down and apologize to your eldest aunt!”
Tongtong’s eyes turned cold.
She thought to herself that if Scumbag Dad could still shout so energetically, his injuries must not be severe enough.
In her chilly little voice, she said, “Deputy Battalion Commander Lin, have you investigated? Do you have any evidence? And you’re saying I pushed her?”
She was utterly disgusted with Scumbag Dad now.
She didn’t even want to call him “Dad.”
He didn’t deserve to be her father!
“What did you call me?” Lin Zhiguo’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head.
Shen Wei continued to stir the pot, pretending to be concerned: “Oh dear! Tongtong, how can you call your father that? After all, your father was severely injured trying to provide for you all. You’re so ungrateful.”
Lin Zhiguo’s anger was instantly ignited: “You little brat! I’ll teach you a lesson!”
Struggling, he raised his uninjured arm, intending to strike Tongtong!
Si Muchen, who had been silently following behind Tongtong, flashed a cold light in his dark eyes. Clenching his small fist, he silently chanted in his heart: 【System: Misfortune transfer! Target: Lin Zhiguo!】
Got it, Host! This System will make him suffer! Let him fall to his death!
A flash of white light passed.
Lin Zhiguo, moving too abruptly, hadn’t even touched Tongtong when he inexplicably tumbled off the hospital bed.
With a loud “thud,” he crashed heavily onto the floor, directly hitting his injured area. He immediately let out a pained scream, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
“Zhi Guo!” Shen Wei screamed. Instead of rushing to help Lin Zhiguo first, she took the opportunity to pinch Tongtong hard: “It’s all your fault! You made your dad fall! You little jinx!”
Caught off guard, Tongtong was yanked and stumbled, nearly falling.
Si Muchen quickly stepped forward, steadying Tongtong while casting a cold glance at Shen Wei.
Amid the chaos, the hospital room door was pushed open.
Regiment Commander Yang, accompanied by several subordinates carrying fruit cans and other condolence gifts, had come to visit Lin Zhiguo, who was “injured on duty.”
As soon as they entered, they saw Lin Zhiguo sprawled on the floor in a pitiful state, groaning in pain, while Shen Wei tearfully accused Tongtong of being disobedient.
Tongtong, protected by Gu Yanbin’s two sons, had red-rimmed eyes.
Seeing her allies arrive, Shen Wei immediately turned on the dramatics, wailing and lodging a complaint first: “Regiment Commander Yang! You must stand up for our Zhi Guo! This child is utterly unreasonable! She made her father fall out of bed, refuses to obey discipline, pushes her elders around… she’s rebellious and unfilial!”
Her talent for twisting the truth was first-rate, making it sound utterly convincing.
Regiment Commander Yang frowned, his gaze toward Tongtong turning displeased.
The others also looked over with reproachful eyes.
Dean Su, who had entered behind Regiment Commander Yang, first noticed Tongtong with her reddened eyes and a bruised, purplish mark on her arm.
The little girl’s stubborn, tight-lipped refusal to cry tugged at Dean Su’s heart.
This child was clever, quick-witted, and well-behaved.
Yu Wanqin had always protected her like the apple of her eye—when had she ever suffered such injustice before?
He took two steps forward, not immediately checking on Lin Zhiguo’s injury, but instead crouching down to look at Tongtong with concern: “Tongtong, tell Uncle Dean, what just happened? How did your arm get like this? Does it hurt?”
Tongtong’s lips trembled. She rubbed her chubby little hands over her eyes, and tears began to stream down.
She discreetly tucked the ginger slice in her hand into her space, then lifted her teary, wide eyes. Her small, milky voice trembled with sobs, yet her words were clear and logical.
“Uncle Dean… as soon as Tongtong came in, Daddy scolded me, said I was a bad child, said I bullied my sister, and wanted to hit me. Then he fell on the floor himself, and eldest aunt came and hit me…”
As she spoke, she pitifully pointed to her little arm, her lips quivering, looking utterly miserable.
Gu Jingnan added angrily, “Last time too! Her daughter tried to push Tongtong into the water. Tongtong dodged, and Lin Jiaojiao fell in herself, but this old witch tried to push Tongtong in to drown her. She’s so evil!”
Si Muchen nodded along, his little expression cold.
Dean Su’s face instantly darkened.
No matter what, treating a child like this was far too cruel!
He turned to look at Lin Zhiguo, his gaze filled with scrutiny and displeasure.
Shen Wei met Regiment Commander Yang’s eyes and tearfully accused, “Dean! You mustn’t listen to one side! Brother Zhi Guo was injured for the country, and this child shows no filial piety at all!”
Regiment Commander Yang’s eyes flickered, and he stepped in to smooth things over: “Yes, Dean Su, we can’t take a child’s word entirely. Let’s set aside what happened before, but her father is injured and hospitalized now. Instead of being considerate and caring, she talks back, and her father fell out of bed—that really is quite unacceptable…”
Tongtong narrowed her eyes, coldly watching the two exchange meaningful glances.
She snorted inwardly.
At that moment, the hospital room door was pushed open once again.
Liu Zhenjun had also arrived.
He had been summoned by Gu Yanbin, specifically called to stand up for his niece, fearing that Tongtong might be bullied.
As soon as they saw the Army Commander, the expressions of everyone inside the room shifted.
“What happened?” Liu Zhenjun’s temper flared the moment he saw the bruises on his niece’s fair, tender arm.
He strode forward in a few steps, picked Tongtong up, and carefully examined her injuries.
His fierce eyes swept coldly over everyone present.
