Chapter 6: Perish Together—Can’t You See?
Shen Wei pouted her lips, immediately turning a pitiful, aggrieved gaze toward Lin Zhiguo.
“Zhi Guo, I… I didn’t…”
“What madness are you up to now!” Lin Zhiguo was growing impatient, ready to scold someone.
Yu Wanqin’s eyes were icy cold, fixed intently on him. “Lin Zhiguo! Keep your little mistress and your bastard child in check, or I won’t mind paying another visit to Commander Gu!”
Lin Zhiguo’s face turned ashen, but in the end, he backed down.
“What kind of talk is that? That’s my elder brother’s wife—don’t talk nonsense!”
Nevertheless, he called Lin Ruihu over and gave him a stern scolding, forbidding him from bullying Tongtong.
Yu Wanqin snorted coldly and turned her face away.
She then rummaged through the cabinets, pulling out all the snacks in the house—ham sausages, canned goods, White Rabbit Creamy Candy—and ignoring Lin Ruihu’s wailing cries, pushed them all toward Tongtong.
She also made a cup of malt milk powder for herself and her daughter.
“Eat up! This was bought by your own father. If you don’t eat it, it’s just wasted!”
Shen Wei’s face turned green with anger.
When evening came, Shen Wei deliberately stirred up trouble again. “Oh dear! There’s only one room in the house. The three of us share one, and Zhi Guo usually sleeps on the sofa. With so many people, there’s just no space. Little sister, why don’t you and Tongtong sleep on the floor?”
Yu Wanqin sneered. “Sleep on the floor? I think you’ve got it all wrong!”
“I am the lady of this house, and Tongtong naturally sleeps with me in the master bedroom! As for the four of you…” Her gaze swept coldly over the two of them, implying something as she sneered, “You’re not planning to sleep together, are you?”
Lin Zhiguo was left speechless, his face flushing a deep crimson with shame and anger. “Yu Wanqin! Don’t go too far! My elder brother did me a great favor. I’m only looking after his wife and children for him. Don’t you dare slander people with your baseless accusations!”
Yu Wanqin rolled her eyes, not even bothering to argue with him.
Shen Wei refused to give up the room, looking pleadingly at Lin Zhiguo. “It’s so late, and the children have school tomorrow. Let’s not make a fuss, alright?”
Just as Lin Zhiguo was about to speak, Tongtong raised her hand first, her little voice tinged with excitement. “Ah! If there really isn’t enough space at home, then Tongtong and Mother will have to go bother Godfather. His place is big, and he has candy!”
With that, she went to grab her little bundle.
“No!” Lin Zhiguo was terrified out of his wits. If they went to see Commander Gu, his position as Battalion Commander would be at risk!
Gritting his teeth, he spoke up. “The master bedroom… is yours! Sister-in-law… take the children and stay at the guesthouse for a few days!”
Shen Wei couldn’t hold back her expression, which twisted with resentment.
Why?!
Why should she be the one to move out?!
But Yu Wanqin gave her no time to argue. Without another word, she took Tongtong by the hand and entered the master bedroom.
Seeing Shen Wei’s belongings scattered all over the room, she felt a wave of disgust.
Moving swiftly, she gathered up all of Shen Wei’s bottles, jars, clothes, and personal items and tossed them out of the master bedroom door.
With a loud “bang!” she shut the door, and Tongtong thoughtfully turned the lock.
Outside the door, Shen Wei’s furious sobbing could be heard. Afraid the neighbors might hear, Lin Zhiguo could only fret and try to calm her down in a low voice.
He then said he would take her and the children to the guesthouse, but he never returned that night.
Of course, Yu Wanqin didn’t care anymore.
In her eyes, Lin Zhiguo was now nothing but a rotten cucumber—anyone who wanted him could have him!
Tongtong and her mother lay on the clean, spacious bed, cheering together. “Yay! Victory!”
Yu Wanqin looked at her daughter, her eyes complex yet carrying an unprecedented brightness, mixed with a hint of confusion.
“Tongtong, can we… really stay here?”
No household registration, no job, living at the mercy of others.
She let out a long sigh.
Tongtong scrambled up, her big eyes sparkling as she took her mother’s hand and led her back into the space.
This was Yu Wanqin’s first formal tour of the Warehouse.
Inside, all kinds of items were dazzling to the eyes. Tongtong took her to the dedicated small pharmacy.
Apart from a dazzling array of Western medicines, there were also various advanced medical devices and an entire wall of medical books—all collected by her mother from major hospitals in her previous life.
“Mom! Look!” Tongtong’s sparkling eyes were filled with the excitement of a little treasure hunter: “If you want something done, do it yourself! Mom, didn’t you learn basic medical knowledge from Grandfather?”
“Once you learn how to diagnose and treat illnesses, you can become a doctor. Even without that dead old man, we can live well in the city, better than all of them!”
Become a doctor?
Yu Wanqin had never dared to think about it before.
But looking at that entire wall of books and her daughter’s confident, rosy-cheeked smiling face, a small flame seemed to ignite in her heart.
Perhaps… it really was possible?
Mother and daughter discussed it late into the night before finally falling asleep, utterly exhausted.
The night was deep.
The family compound was quiet and still.
After making sure her mother was sound asleep, Lin Tongtong, like a little gecko, stealthily slipped out of bed and tiptoed barefoot out the door.
In the courtyard stood an Old Ginkgo Tree, lush and leafy, clearly having stood there for many years.
Tongtong had had her eye on it since daytime.
The little girl pattered over, stretched out her fair, tender little hand, and gently pressed it against the rough bark.
Her special ability flowed, and the previously wilted Old Ginkgo instantly perked up, its leaves rustling loudly.
【Mmm… so comfortable! Feels like my old back that’s been aching for years has finally stretched out. Little one, what did you do to me?】
Tongtong covered her mouth and giggled secretly.
She had just channeled a bit of her healing ability.
“Grandpa Tree, would you like Tongtong to channel it to you every day from now on?” she asked sweetly, her big eyes full of cunning.
The ginkgo tree rustled again: 【That would be wonderful! I feel like I could live another 100 years!】
Tongtong grinned: “Tongtong wants to know about my Scumbag Dad and eldest uncle’s wife. As long as Grandpa tells me, I’ll come channel to you every day.”
She needed to know both herself and her enemy to help her mother win every battle!
Now that was a topic to keep the Old Ginkgo wide awake!
It had been standing guard here alone for over fifty years, with no one to chat with this old fellow, and it was bursting with gossip to share.
【Oh, there’s so much to tell! Let me tell you, that Regiment Commander Zhou from the east end—don’t let his proper appearance fool you—his eyes are always wandering toward young women. Lately, he’s been sneaking glances at your eldest uncle’s wife!】
Tongtong remembered: “Regiment Commander Zhou is that official who spoke up for that dead old man today?”
【Yes, yes! That’s him! But his wife is fierce. If he looks at anyone a second too long during the day, she’ll twist his ear at night!】
【And then there’s Nurse Zhang Yanfang next to his house. She’s closest with your eldest uncle’s wife, but she has a peculiar habit—she likes to smell men’s sweaty feet…】
Tongtong listened, her little mouth slightly agape, her mind racing as she memorized all this important intelligence.
After listening for a good while, she started yawning repeatedly. Only then did she bid the Old Ginkgo goodnight.
The small figure quietly slipped back into bed, burrowed into Mother’s embrace, and fell asleep contentedly.
…
Meanwhile, at the Military District Hospital.
Little Si Muchen lay gloomily on the hospital bed.
The system in his consciousness trembled with fear.
[Host… why aren’t you saying anything?]
Si Muchen lowered his eyelids and pursed his lips tightly.
After being taken home by his uncle, as expected, he had another unfortunate accident—falling down the stairs—and was rushed to the hospital.
It had always been like this since he was little!
Plagued by misfortune, he would trip while walking, lose his wallet, get locked inside the house before exams, be kidnapped five times in eight years, abducted six times… Misfortune, big and small, never ceased.
Everyone said he was a jinx, that he had caused the death of his entire family.
He believed it too.
To avoid burdening others, little Si Muchen began rejecting anyone who tried to get close, becoming increasingly withdrawn and overwhelmed with negativity!
Lately, he had even started experiencing frequent hallucinations and nightmares… This time, when he was abducted, he didn’t even try to resist. Instead, he deliberately acted out and made a scene, wishing he could die at the hands of the traffickers and finally be free.
But just moments ago, that damned system in his head told him.
All of this stemmed from the damned Misfortune Transfer System he had bound with as a child!
[I’m sorry, Host… this… uh…] The system was extremely guilty: [I never expected that right after binding, I would run out of energy and crash, causing you to bear the backlash of the misfortunes that failed to transfer… That’s why you’ve been so unlucky…]
The system’s voice grew softer and softer.
Little Si Muchen sneered coldly, then suddenly, with a blank expression, he fiercely grabbed his own neck.
His movements were swift and ruthless, his small face turning red from suffocation.
The system let out a sharp, piercing shriek!
[Host, what are you doing?!]
“Can’t you tell? Perish Together!”
After all these years, he had finally found his enemy!
