Chapter 68: Is Incest a Family Tradition in the Lin Family?
Yu Wanqin trembled with rage, delivering a fierce slap across Lin Youcai’s face. Her voice shook with fury. “Lin Youcai! Have you no shame? Is incest a family tradition in your Lin family? The older brother covets his sister-in-law, and now the younger brother wants to sleep with her too? Get out of here!”
Tongtong was equally furious, kicking him hard in the shin. “Get away! Stay away from my mother!”
That kick nearly crippled him.
Lin Youcai clutched his throbbing leg, his temper flaring.
His feigned kindness vanished instantly, revealing his true rogue nature.
Humiliated and enraged, he reached out to grab Yu Wanqin’s arm. “You think you’re too good for me, huh? You’re just secondhand goods—you should be grateful I’d even want you! Don’t push your luck!”
Just as his hand was about to touch Yu Wanqin, an iron-like grip shot out from the side, clamping down on his wrist.
“Ah!” Lin Youcai screamed in agony.
His wrist felt as if it were being crushed, the pain searing through his bones. Hopping on one foot, he snarled, “Who dares lay a hand on me?”
He turned to see a tall, imposing man in a military uniform glaring at him coldly. His face was dark as storm clouds, eyes blazing with terrifying fury, his presence overwhelming.
“Who do you think you’re laying hands on?” Gu Yanbin’s voice was icy, carrying the lethal aura of a seasoned soldier.
Lin Youcai met Gu Yanbin’s murderous gaze and nearly lost his soul in terror.
The sight of the three stars on the man’s shoulders made his legs tremble uncontrollably.
“Sir… I… I didn’t… I was just joking with my sister-in-law…”
“Joking?” Gu Yanbin tightened his grip, and Lin Youcai let out another pig-like squeal.
“I saw it clearly—you were harassing a female comrade!” Gu Yanbin spoke slowly, his voice low but carrying immense weight. “If you dare bother them again, next time it won’t just be a broken hand!”
Gu Jingnan and Si Muchen rushed over right behind him.
Gu Jingnan, hot-tempered and red-eyed with rage, launched into a furious kicking spree at Lin Youcai. “You scum! How dare you bully my Aunt Yu and little sister Tongtong!”
Si Muchen wasn’t as brutal, but he targeted the most painful spots on Lin Youcai’s body, jabbing hard with a pen, leaving bloody holes with each strike—a merciless assault.
Lin Youcai wailed in agony, crying for his parents.
“I was wrong! I’ll never do it again!”
“Get lost!”
Gu Yanbin flung him away like garbage, his face full of disgust.
Gu Jingnan followed up with a kick to his backside, sending him flying before he face-planted into the muddy roadside.
Lin Youcai, terrified out of his wits, scrambled away on all fours, not daring to look back.
“Dad Gu is amazing!” Tongtong exclaimed joyfully, rushing over to hug Gu Yanbin’s leg.
Her chubby little face was full of admiration, her eyes sparkling like stars.
Gu Yanbin bent down and picked up the little girl, then turned to Yu Wanqin, his gaze instantly softening with concern. “Did he hurt you?”
Yu Wanqin, still shaken, shook her head. “I’m fine. Thank you, Commander Gu.”
“What happened just now? Who was that man?” Gu Yanbin asked with a frown.
Tongtong rested her little head on her godfather’s shoulder, her tiny voice filled with anger. “That bad guy is my Third Uncle! He wanted to bully Mommy! He’s a bad person!”
Gu Yanbin gently patted her back to soothe her. “Don’t be afraid. With Godfather here, no one will dare bully you.”
Si Muchen was also on the other side, gently squeezing Tongtong’s chubby little hand, his eyes dark and intense.
Although he said nothing, his protective stance was unmistakable.
“I’ll protect my sister too!” Gu Jingnan immediately chimed in noisily.
Gu Yanbin was quite satisfied with the two little ones’ reactions and asked Yu Wanqin, “Do you need me to handle this for you?”
Yu Wanqin felt it would be too much trouble to bother him again and shook her head. “I can handle it myself, thank you.”
Gu Yanbin didn’t press further. Carrying Tongtong, he turned and walked ahead, his voice low and magnetic, exuding a sense of security. “Alright! I’ll take you home first. Be careful these next couple of days—I’ll pick you up and drop you off for work!”
“That’s really not necessary…” Yu Wanqin frowned, instinctively wanting to refuse.
But Tongtong clapped her little hands first and agreed, “Yay! With Godfather here, Tongtong won’t be afraid of bad people bullying us!”
Gu Yanbin chuckled and ruffled her little head, a low, pleasant laugh escaping from his chest.
Yu Wanqin opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing.
She could handle the Lin family herself, but she didn’t want her daughter to be dragged into danger alongside her.
The group chatted and laughed as they made their way home.
Although they had temporarily shaken off Lin Youcai, Yu Wanqin couldn’t shake her unease.
Somehow, news of the Lin family’s antics reached He Xiulan’s ears.
The Old Lady couldn’t sit still upon hearing it and paid a visit in person that evening.
“Wanqin, I heard those shameless in-laws of yours are causing trouble again?” He Xiulan took Yu Wanqin’s hand as soon as she entered, looking her over with concern. “You didn’t get hurt, did you? Were you frightened?”
Warmth filled Yu Wanqin’s heart, and she shook her head. “Godmother, I’m fine.”
“What a disgraceful family! I heard they even had the nerve to demand your job—talk about wishful thinking!” Worried that Yu Wanqin might be deceived, He Xiulan advised, “My dear, your medical skills are plain for all to see. That job is something you earned through hard work—don’t you dare do anything foolish.”
Yu Wanqin nodded, determination shining in her eyes. “Don’t worry, Godmother. I’ll definitely protect my job. It’s our livelihood, after all!”
He Xiulan nodded in satisfaction.
Tongtong also tilted her head, smiling as she patted her little chest. “Grandma, don’t worry! I’ll protect Mommy too!”
He Xiulan was delighted and patted the little girl’s fluffy head. After a moment’s thought, she tentatively suggested, “Zhenjun has gone to the capital for a meeting, so it’s just me and Xinxin at home. We have plenty of empty rooms. Why don’t you and Tongtong move in with us for a few days? Let’s see who would dare cause trouble at the Commander’s doorstep!”
Yu Wanqin was taken aback. She did need a safe place to lay low for a while, and it would also keep her daughter away from all that filth.
Without hesitation, she nodded gratefully. “Godmother, that would be such a big help!”
“What help? Tongtong is my god-granddaughter, and you’re my dry daughter! We’re family—no need for formalities!” He Xiulan waved a hand dismissively, her tone brisk and cheerful.
And so, Yu Wanqin quickly packed some toiletries and a change of clothes for herself and Tongtong and temporarily moved into the Commander’s residence.
When Xinxin saw Tongtong arrive, his usually expressionless little face lit up with obvious joy. He happily ran over and followed Tongtong step by step, even helping her with her small bundle.
He Xiulan was also overjoyed.
Most of the time, only she and Xinxin were at home, so it had never been this lively before!
She tidied up the guest room and helped organize their belongings.
After chatting warmly with Yu Wanqin for a while, she finally let them go to sleep.
Originally, Yu Wanqin and Tongtong were to share a room.
But when night fell, Xinxin stood at the door of the guest room, clutching her little pillow and refusing to leave, gazing longingly at Tongtong.
He Xiulan felt a bit troubled: “Xinxin, little sister needs to sleep. How about going back to your own room?”
