Chapter 81: Doctor Shen, Your Judgment Is Too Rash
She had just thought the child had eaten something wrong and hadn’t considered an allergic reaction.
Shen Xinyun, publicly refuted by a three- or four-year-old child on the spot, instantly turned extremely pale, feeling her authority had been challenged.
Flushed with anger, she sneered, “Little brat, what right do you have to interrupt when adults are talking! What do you know about medicine?”
Tongtong puffed out her cheeks: “Aunt Shen, even though I haven’t studied medicine, I know you need to examine the patient before having a say. You didn’t even look at the patient and insisted my mother made them worse—you’re a quack!”
Shen Xinyun choked, her face turning livid with rage.
She was the eldest daughter of the Shen family, the most renowned genius doctor.
How could she be questioned like this by a child?!
Furious, she glared at Yu Wanqin and snapped, “Doctor Yu, control your child! Children raised by country women really have no manners!”
“Enough!” A cold, angry shout came from outside the crowd.
Gu Yanbin and Dean Su were striding over, having just visited an old chief and passing by here.
Gu Yanbin’s face was dark enough to drip water, and Dean Su also wore a serious expression.
Seeing Gu Yanbin, Shen Xinyun’s eyes immediately lit up.
She quickly put on a wronged expression and rushed over, preemptively complaining: “Yanbin, Dean Su, you’ve come just in time! Doctor Yu made the patient worse, and she’s letting her child cause trouble here, twisting right and wrong. The impact is terrible…”
She thought Gu Yanbin would feel disgusted by such opportunistic, unruly people, as he had in the capital.
However, Gu Yanbin didn’t even glance at her, walking straight past.
His gaze fell on Yu Wanqin and Tongtong, noticing their angry expressions, and he frowned slightly.
Tongtong rushed over and hugged his leg, her little voice tinged with grievance: “Godfather! Aunt Shen and the bad grandma are bullying Mother!”
Gu Yanbin bent down to pick up Tongtong, gently patting her back, then shot an icy glare at Shen Xinyun.
“Doctor Shen! Without concrete evidence, jumping to conclusions based on mere speculation and slandering a colleague—is that the conduct a doctor should have? What part of what Tongtong said was wrong? Have you thoroughly examined the patient?”
Shen Xinyun stiffened, looking at him in disbelief.
She never expected him to humiliate her in public for that wretched child!
Dean Su also stepped forward to examine the child and said gravely, “The child’s symptoms are indeed indicative of aspiration pneumonia or an allergic reaction, unrelated to Doctor Yu’s suturing surgery! Doctor Shen, your judgment is too rash!”
For a moment, all the doctors’ eyes turned to Shen Xinyun.
Filled with doubt and scrutiny.
Doctor Shen, who always prided herself on her medical expertise—could she really not tell this? Or was it intentional?
Shen Xinyun’s face alternated between green and white. Forcing composure, she stepped forward and pretended to examine the child again, pursing her lips: “I misjudged earlier. It was indeed caused by consuming an allergenic food.”
The couple, seeing so many officials arrive at once, were already terrified.
“W-who knows if you’re just covering for your own people and changed your story!”
When no one was paying attention, Tongtong slipped down from Gu Yanbin and quietly touched the leaves of a potted plant by the windowsill, gathering some information.
This couple had stayed in the hospital for a week because their child was undergoing surgery and treatment. They spoke without restraint, and the plants had overheard everything.
Tongtong’s little ears twitched, and she snorted coldly before finally running back with a patter of footsteps.
She tugged at Gu Yanbin’s sleeve, her face full of innocence as she asked loudly, “Dad Gu, Grandpa Director! This uncle and aunt have been demanding compensation from Mom and stopping the other doctor uncles from saving people. Could it be that they deliberately fed the patient something bad just to extort money?”
“Back when we were in the countryside, there was a family who owed gambling debts and deliberately made their child sick to demand compensation from the hospital!”
Her soft, childish voice spoke words that sent a chill down everyone’s spine.
The couple’s faces instantly paled, and the man instinctively shouted, “You’re lying!”
But their evasive eyes still aroused suspicion among the crowd.
Gu Yanbin’s gaze sharpened as he addressed the security personnel who had arrived shortly after, “Investigate! Look into their social connections immediately! Contact the local police station!”
The man was so frightened that he turned pale, abandoning even his child as he tried to flee.
Gu Yanbin’s guard was faster, rushing forward and pinning him down.
The old Lin couple, seeing the authorities arrive, were also terrified and tried to slip away unnoticed.
The couple was escorted to the nearby police station, and the child was urgently taken to the examination room. Fortunately, timely treatment saved the child’s life.
However, due to the couple’s prolonged delay, the child had gone into shock, causing brain damage… meaning that even after waking up, the child would be intellectually disabled.
As the chaotic situation was brought under control, the onlookers gradually dispersed, whispering among themselves.
Gu Yanbin walked over to Yu Wanqin, his eyes filled with concern. “Are you alright?”
Yu Wanqin shook her head, though she couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow.
Money truly corrupts the heart—those two wicked individuals were so depraved that they would even harm their own child.
Tongtong held her mother’s slender hand, smiling brightly. “Mom, work’s over. Let’s go eat!”
Seeing her soft and adorable little daughter, Yu Wanqin finally felt her mood lighten a little.
She reached out and gently stroked her daughter’s soft cheek, nodding lightly. “Alright, let’s go.”
Shen Xinyun stood to the side, her face alternating between pale and flushed, utterly embarrassed.
Watching Gu Yanbin’s protective attitude toward Yu Wanqin and her daughter, jealousy gnawed at her heart.
But to maintain her image, she walked up to Yu Wanqin, forcing a stiff smile. “Doctor Yu, I was too hasty earlier. I spoke without fully understanding the situation and misunderstood you. I apologize.”
Yu Wanqin glanced at her and replied calmly, “You’re too kind, Doctor Shen. Just be more careful when examining patients in the future.”
Doctor Shen’s earlier baseless accusations had left Yu Wanqin with little respect for her.
Shen Xinyun felt even more irritated by this subtle rebuff but deliberately turned to Gu Yanbin instead.
Speaking in an intimate tone, she said, “Yanbin, when I returned to Jingshi last time, I ran into your mother. She hasn’t been feeling well lately, so I helped check on her. She also asked me to bring you something, but I haven’t had the chance to give it to you. How about you come with me now to get it?”
She naturally tried to link arms with Gu Yanbin, asserting her claim over him in front of Yu Wanqin and attempting to lead him away.
Unexpectedly, Gu Yanbin took a step back, avoiding her as if she were a snake.
His tone was cold and distant. “Thank you. I’ll have my orderly retrieve it later. You must be busy, Doctor Shen.”
Without another glance at Shen Xinyun’s unpleasant expression, he turned to Yu Wanqin and said gently, “I’ll take you and Tongtong home.”
Tongtong was the first to agree, hugging Dad Gu’s leg: “Yay! Dad, thank you for speaking up for Mom today. I’ll decide—Mom gets to rest tomorrow, and I invite you to our house for dinner, okay~”
