Chapter 45 (New) I Miss You Every Moment
An hour later, Chu Tang appeared in Yang Xiaojing's office.
She placed the contract in her hand in front of Yang Xiaojing. "Supervisor Yang, the task you assigned is complete. A five-year legal counsel contract, 150,000 already transferred. In addition, I signed three entrusted agency agreements for loan disputes and one for patent infringement. All four cases were signed as general agency, with attorney fees paid on the spot. Together with the 150,000 for legal counsel, that's 800,000 total. If you don't believe me, you can ask the finance department for the transaction records. I also have payment receipts here."
With that, Chu Tang opened her phone's photo album and showed Yang Xiaojing the payment screenshots. "The firm's losses have been covered by me."
Yang Xiaojing was dumbfounded. Refusing to believe it, she flipped through the contract and saw the signatures and seals, shock flashing in her eyes. "Ruan Group... Ruan Shaodong is your..."
Chu Tang smiled. "He's my father."
With a "thud," the contract in Yang Xiaojing's hand fell to the floor. She abruptly looked up. "You're the daughter of the Ruan Group?"
After going through a series of troublesome events, Chu Tang no longer wanted to keep a low profile.
She replied, "That's right."
Before Yang Xiaojing could recover from her shock, she received another phone call.
"Attorney Yang, what's the background of Attorney Ruan at your firm? How does she know Jiang Shixu, the president of the Jiang Group? Last night, our President Liu was beaten into the hospital by President Jiang's bodyguards. This morning, the audit department and tax authorities came to our company to check the books. After running around making inquiries, I found out this was all at President Jiang's order."
Jiang Shixu?
Yang Xiaojing's face turned pale, cold sweat beading on her forehead.
After hanging up, her heart pounded wildly.
"You... you know the president of the Jiang Group?"
Chu Tang crossed her arms, her gaze icy. "Yes, he's my fiancé, and the benefactor driving the Cullinan that you've all been gossiping about lately."
Yang Xiaojing broke out in a cold sweat from shock. She stammered, "I... I'm sorry, I didn't know you were President Jiang's fiancée..."
At this moment, Yang Xiaojing realized she had been set up by Xu Jingxuan.
She didn't dare offend the Jiang family, so when the Jiang family's adopted daughter told her to target Ruan Chutang, she had no choice but to comply.
But Xu Jingxuan hadn't told her that Ruan Chutang was the daughter of the Ruan Group and the fiancée of Jiang Shixu.
Now that Jiang Shixu had personally witnessed Ruan Chutang being harassed and had taken matters into his own hands, was she doomed too?
The moment Chu Tang left, Yang Xiaojing immediately called Xu Jingxuan.
"Miss Xu, is that Ruan Chutang really Young Master Jiang's fiancée?"
Xu Jingxuan hated hearing anyone bring that up. She said impatiently, "Can you say something useful? I don't have time to waste on you."
Seeing that she didn't deny it, Yang Xiaojing panicked. "You told me to target her, but you didn't tell me she was Young Master Jiang's fiancée! This is over—I've indirectly offended Young Master Jiang. You have to help me!"
"Heh, you idiot. If she weren't A-Xu's fiancée, I wouldn't bother targeting her. Help you? I don't have that kind of free time."
"Miss Xu, I arranged for Ruan Chutang to meet with those two old perverts on your orders. If you don't help me, I'll expose you! You don't want President Jiang to find out what you've been doing behind his back, do you?"
Xu Jingxuan hated being threatened the most.
She gritted her teeth. "Are you threatening me?"
"I'm just stating the facts, Miss Xu. Those two old perverts have already been dealt with by Jiang Shixu. I'm next. If something happens to me, you won't get any benefit either."
"It's no big deal. Make up an excuse and resign voluntarily. I can recommend you to another law firm. If the Jiang family really comes after you, just insist you didn't know what those two old perverts were like beforehand. If something really goes wrong, I'll protect you. But if you dare leak even half a word, I will not let you off!"
Yang Xiaojing said, "Don't worry. As long as you don't leave me to die, I won't say anything."
...
The next day, Chu Tang drove to the courthouse for a hearing.
She had just finished her hearing and was walking out of the courthouse when she ran into Gu Zechuan.
Chu Tang looked at him warily. "What are you doing here?"
Gu Zechuan's eyes were full of deep affection. "I know you work at Shengke Law Firm and had a hearing at the courthouse today, so I came here specially to wait for you."
Chu Tang narrowed her eyes, studying him with a hint of anger. "You investigated me?"
Pain flickered in Gu Zechuan's eyes. "Chu Tang, I've been wallowing in despair these past days. I miss you every moment."
Ruan Chutang let out a cold scoff. "What does that have to do with me?"
Gu Zechuan smiled and pulled a sparkling diamond ring from his pocket, presenting it like a treasure. "Remember how you said you really liked this ring before? I bought it for you."
Chu Tang remembered that ring.
It was the one she had seen in a magazine.
She had marveled at its unique, ingenious design and casually shared it with Gu Zechuan.
Gu Zechuan had glanced at it, and his face had immediately darkened.
What had he said back then?
"I can give you anything else, but not a ring. I don't have any plans to get married right now."
Chu Tang had found it utterly disappointing.
He was always like that—assuming she was desperate to marry, assuming she dreamed every day of becoming his wife.
At the thought of this, Chu Tang curled her lips in disdain and said, "Sorry, but I don't like you anymore."
She raised her hand, showing off the dazzling diamond ring on her finger. "I only like what my fiancé gave me."
A flicker of hurt passed through Gu Zechuan's eyes.
He already knew who the man by Ruan Chutang's side was.
Jiang Shixu—the crown prince of Jiangcheng, president of the Jiang Group, and the sole heir of the Jiang family.
Compared to the Jiang family, his Gu family was indeed nothing.
But still...
Gu Zechuan smiled. "Chu Tang, you two aren't engaged yet. Right now, he's not your fiancé."
Chu Tang frowned, looking at him like he was insane.
Gu Zechuan curled his lips. "Chu Tang, don't even mention engagement—even married couples get divorced. So what if you get engaged?"
He narrowed his eyes, a look of obsession gleaming within them. "Even if you marry him, I won't let go. An affair is the most thrilling thing, isn't it?"
"Smack—"
Unable to bear it any longer, Chu Tang swung her hand and slapped Gu Zechuan across the face. "Get lost!"
Gu Zechuan turned his head to the side, a red, swollen handprint forming on his cheek.
He twisted his mouth into a roguish grin. "You hit so hard. Does your hand hurt?"
"Psycho!" Chu Tang shot him a glare and lifted her foot to leave.
Gu Zechuan blocked her way. "Where are you going? I'll drive you."
"Get lost!" She was truly angry now, lifting her leg to kick him.
Gu Zechuan dodged. "So hot-tempered? You weren't like this before. Where's that gentle, obedient side of yours?"
Chu Tang rolled her eyes and walked straight toward the open-air parking lot.
Gu Zechuan stuck to her like a stubborn plaster, following behind. "Chu Tang, I was wrong about what happened before. I was a jerk, and I'm sorry. I want to start pursuing you again. Can you give me a chance?"
"I'm not asking you to say yes right away, but at least give me a chance? I promise that from now on, my heart and eyes will only be on you, and I'll be absolutely loyal!"
Chu Tang sneered. "Who cares?"
She walked to the open-air parking lot and stopped in front of the blue Bentley.
Gu Zechuan looked up, saw the car, and froze.
