Ethan took Kara to an abandoned apartment. Inside were computers, maps, and photographs. Kara placed the package on the table. “Explain.” “Open it.” She hesitated before unzipping the bag. Inside was a small silver device. The moment Kara touched it, the screen activated. Her name appeared. KARA REYES Below it were three words: PROJECT SHADOW — SUBJECT Kara stared at Ethan. “What is this?” “A secret project.” “And why is my name on it?” Ethan didn't answer. Suddenly, the lights went out. A window shattered. Someone had entered the building. Ethan pulled Kara away from the window. “They found us.” “Who?” “Black Meridian.” The sound of approaching footsteps filled the hallway. Ethan looked at Kara. “Run.”
