Kara spent the night studying the photograph. Her parents had disappeared when she was twelve. She had always believed they were dead. Ethan finally showed her a classified file. Inside were photographs of Kara taken throughout her childhood. Five years old. Eight. Twelve. Sixteen. Someone had been watching her. “Why?” Kara asked. “Because of Project Shadow.” “What did my parents do?” “They helped create it.” Kara looked at Ethan. “And you?” “I worked with them.” “Were you working for Black Meridian?” Ethan nodded. “For a while.” Kara stepped away. “You lied to me.” “Yes.” “Why should I trust you?” Ethan had no answer. Then Maya Chen entered the room. “We found your mother.”
